Family Medicine Q & A

What is family planning?

Family planning at Denver Medical Concierges involves becoming pregnant when you’re ready or avoiding a pregnancy when you’re not. The practice provides numerous birth control and family planning options for families or individuals wanting to avoid any surprises. The practice cares for individuals of all genders who are interested in taking charge of their fertility.

Which family planning options are available?

Denver Medical Concierges offers the following family planning solutions:

Family planning education

Your provider discusses ways to become pregnant if you’re ready or ways to avoid becoming pregnant while sexually active if you’re not yet prepared.

Birth control pills

Taking birth control pills dramatically reduces the risk of an unwanted pregnancy. It’s important to take the pills exactly as instructed to maximize their effectiveness. Your Denver Medical Concierges provider prescribes birth control pills that best suit your needs and lifestyle.

Birth control patches

You wear a birth control patch on your skin. Your provider may direct you to apply a new patch each week or as directed.

Emergency contraception

If another birth control method has failed, you may be a candidate for emergency contraception, also called the morning-after pill. Take the pill as directed to reduce your risk of becoming pregnant after being sexually active.

Other birth control options

Other birth control options include an intrauterine device (IUD), vaginal rings, injections, or implanted hormones. However, many of these options require an in-person appointment. Sterilization (tubal ligation, vasectomy, etc.) requires a surgical procedure. Your Denver Medical Concierges provider offers referrals to specialists who can complete these procedures.

Which family planning solution is best for me?

The Denver Medical Concierges team meets with you virtually to discuss your medical history, lifestyle, preferences, and family planning goals.

They determine which birth control method you’re a candidate for and provide a prescription when necessary. We take time with our patients to discuss birth control options, review your medical history, refer to speciality services, provide prescription refills, and address any questions.
